Cave of Forgotten Dreams (2010) Englische Originalfassung

Star director Werner Herzog leads the viewer into the mysterious world of the Chauvet caves and their world famous cave drawings.

Until 1994 the Chauvet caves near the Vallon-Pont-d'Arc in southern France remained unsdiscovered - and inside them cave drawings between 32,000 and 35,000 years of age. To protect the latter the place of discovery was sealed and entrance prohibited to the vast public. Thanks to Werner Herzog, who ventured into the underground empire with a small team and filmed his expedition with a digicam, one can nonetheless catch a glimpse of this mysterious past.

"Grizzly Man" Werner Herzog is on the height of his creative strength in this enthralling documentary. With his very distinguished baritone and in his best bavarian English he comments on the (animal) images - bisons, horses by the standpost, mammoths, a naked woman - he reasons on art, correlates the drawings to animated cartoons, and philosophises on the course of the world. At times clever, at times humorous, always informative, and never boring.
