DIAL M FOR MURDER IN 3D

Dial M for Murder (1954)

Former professional tennis player Tony Wendice finds out his wife Margo had an affair a long time ago. Even though the love affair is long past he decides to murder his Margo to inherit her fortune. He waits until his wife's friend Mark Halliday returns to the city. He blackmails an old colleague, forcing him to strangulate his wife - but then, the alleged murderer himself is killed. Halliday doesn't believe that Margo is guilty, and through investigation the police spot some inconsistencies.

Alfred Hitchcock had already started work on "Rear Window" when he took over direction of "Dial M for Murder", which is based on the successful stage play by Frederick Knott. Hitchcock chose his favourite leading lady of the time, Grace Kelly, to take on the role of Margot Wendice. It wasn't necessarily Hitchcock's idea to film in 3D, which made the cameras large and unwieldy. In the end, the film was rarely shown in 3D, although Hitchcocks technical application serves the story and is more than a mere gimmick.
